Once the structure is properly sealed, interior damp-proofing and aesthetic restoration can follow with confidence, knowing the problem won’t resurface behind newly painted walls or plaster.
These is a caveat in aesthetic restoration that must be noted when dealing with building salts and residual moisture. We recommend that only a contractor who understands how to deal with residual moisture and salting perform repairs to damp and water damaged surfaces.
Often times once the source of water and damp ingress has been attended to there are factors present which will continue to ruin paint and other wall finishes, such as:
- Residual moisture trapped in the building materials beneath, and
- Salting – chlorides, nitrates and sulphates which break down the bonds between cement and sand and these salts are hygroscopic (absorb moisture from the atmosphere)
